From mood and mental health to sleep, skin, sex drive and more, Aavia helps you have a stronger relationship with your hormones through an iOS app. Join us as an Engineering Manager to help others plan their lives around their cycles and make their bad days better.

As our Engineering Manager, you will be in charge of three main pillars: people, process, and product. You will be managing the engineering team, liaising between leadership and engineering team, and diving into the code base. You will work closely with our team of developers to ensure the best possible user experience for our customers.

We are looking for self starters and motivated individuals who aspire to become Head of Engineering of Aavia.

 

Responsibilities:

People: 

  • Prioritize building an inclusive engineering team culture 
  • Mentor engineering team members and lead peer coding sessions with other engineers - you care about helping others grow their careers 
  • Manage offshore and onshore developers
  • Own hiring plan and lead recruitment of future engineering team members
  • Conduct performance reviews and regular bi-weekly feedback sessions with every engineer
  • Join team onsite in person every quarter

Process:

  • Standardize software life cycle process across backend and frontend
  • Facilitate communication on dependencies and prioritization between frontend and backend 
  • Set up test process and testing environments for QA and debugging
  • Lead meetings such as dev standups, planning sessions, dev team fun sessions and retrospectives
  • Review pull requests to help the team deliver more robust, maintainable, and high quality code
  • Plan and prioritize the backlog, allocation of assignments to team members, and track execution of project 
  • Bring expertise and ideas to make team more efficient and challenge them to push things forward 
  • Communicate status of development to the rest of the team

Product:

  • Drive roadmap creation and execution with Product by providing time estimates, weighing performance and tradeoffs based on business goals, and giving critical feedback
  • Create and review sprint tickets
  • Provide guidance & direction to the team in matters of design, architecture for scaling, implementation, validation and monitoring 
  • Weigh tradeoffs in technical design to right size solutions for a fast-growing startup
  • Collaborate with iOS engineers to ensure seamless integration of new features
  • Develop and be hands-on in either the frontend or backend, with knowledge in the other: 
    • Backend: 
      • Develop new features using TypeScript and Node.js on the Firestore
      • Work with user health data to create prediction models on hormone cycles
      • Work with the development team to ensure code quality and maintainability
      • Optimize existing TypeScript code on the Firestore cloud services to improve performance, scalability, memory usage and reduce cost
      • Frontend: 
        • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality iOS applications using SwiftUI, Swift, and other relevant technologies
        • Collaborate with the design team to create and implement engaging user interfaces
        • Connect iOS applications to back-end services with RESTful APIs 
        • Know Apple's design principles, interface guidelines, and App Store submission process
      • Troubleshoot and debug issues and crashes in existing code
      • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in mobile app development

        Requirements:

        • Full time, US based. Able to take early morning EST dev standup meetings
        • Experience managing engineering teams, especially with remote teams in different time zones
        • 5+ years experience working on a mobile product, especially in native iOS
        • Either one of the following: 
          • Backend: Strong knowledge of and experience with TypeScript, Javascript, or comparable technologies and Node.js development
          • Frontend: Strong proficiency in Swift and SwiftUI 
        • Strong knowledge of and experience with Firebase cloud services, including Firestore, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Storage
        • Experience with optimization techniques and best practices for code
        • Experience working with a large dataset
        • Knowledge of agile development methodologies
        • Knowledge about CI/CD pipelines and testing environments

          Bonus:

          • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering Management, or related field
