Maintain the Moisture! Fighting Dry Skin and Acne On Your Period

When your hormone levels drop around your period, it can cause dryness in your skin. If you are more used to breakouts during your period, you can thank dryness for that too. Your skin is likely over producing oil to compensate for the lack of moisture.

This can happen from the time that your period begins, all the way through to the end of the week after your period ends. This is how long it takes for your hormones to start going back up. If you find your skin behaves differently during your period, these moisture-making methods might help.

🧖Skip the hot shower, it removes naturally occurring oils. Instead, turn that knob to lukewarm and enjoy hanging on to your natural oils.

🥶Wrap your face in a soft and gentle cloth before heading out into the cold. Both cold weather and rough fabrics can cause your skin to become more dry.

🧴Moisturize, and do it with face creams that are fragrance and alcohol free to avoid unnecessary irritations. Make sure they also have sunscreen to protect your skin.

💦 Use skincare products that help retain water in your skin. Some hydrating ingredients to look out for in your products are glycerin, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, petrolatum, squalane, fatty alcohols, and lactic acid.

♨️ Try a humidifier because low humidity may be a factor in drying out your skin. If you get one, make sure it’s easy to clean so you can avoid bacteria buildup.
