When You Lose Blood, You Lose Iron

Remember that first time you got your period? How strange it was to have blood coming from your body and it being normal, even though it didn’t seem normal at all. We tend to lose that perspective after a while and forget that the blood our bodies lose each month does matter.

When you lose a lot of blood during your period, your iron levels go down. When your iron levels are low, you may feel fatigue, weakness, headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, a fast heartbeat, or shortness of breath. All in all, it’s something you’d ideally avoid.

Luckily, small shifts in your diet can help. During your period, try to incorporate lots of leafy greens 🥬into your meals (think: kale, spinach, collard greens). These are rich in iron and will combat those not-so-friendly symptoms that you may experience during your cycle.
