What is FSA/HSA?
In the US, flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible health care expenses.
At Aavia, we’re committed to making the full app experience as accessible as possible. In partnership with TrueMed, you can now become an Aavia VIP using your available FSA or HSA funds (aka get money reimbursed for subscribing to Aavia!). HSA/FSA members also receive access to a Cycle School recording with leading OBGYN, Dr. Staci Tanouye.
How does it work?
1. Check your eligibility
Determine if you or your parents (if you’re under 26) have an FSA or HSA account
2. Purchase Aavia VIP
Sign up for the Aavia FSA/HSA VIP plan in the app, which includes a letter of medical necessity
3. Complete the survey
After your purchase, you’ll receive an email from Aavia with a link to Truemed to complete a quick 2-minute survey to determine your eligibility for reimbursement
4. Qualify
If you qualify, TrueMed will email your your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) and next steps on getting reimbursed
5. Submit for Reimbursement
Submit your LMN and your Aavia receipts to your FSA/HSA provider to get reimbursed for the full cost of your membership
That’s all! You are an Aavia VIP for the next 12 months!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the price $99/year?
The FSA/HSA plan includes the Letter of Medical Necessity. Here’s an example of how it would work: Jane has FSA/HSA. She purchases this plan for optimal savings. The $30 Letter of Medical Necessity fee is covered by team Aavia in the FSA/HSA plan. Jane has $69 left she can go claim through her FSA or HSA and save 30-40% from the typical plan.
What is the step-by-step process for submitting to FSA/HSA administrators for reimbursement?
Check out this article to get a comprehensive understanding of the reimbursement process.
How long does FSA or HSA reimbursement take?
For most FSA/HSA administrators, your expenses will be approved within days when you submit your claim for reimbursement along with your receipt and a Letter of Medical Necessity. The exact timing will vary based on your administrator.
I don’t have enough funds in my FSA/HSA account to reimburse the entire purchase. Can I still use Truemed?
Yes. You can still submit for partial reimbursement. For example: if you purchase an eligible item for $100 but only have $60 in your account, you can reimburse $60 of your purchase with your tax-free funds (with the remaining $40 paid for as normal).
What if my reimbursement is rejected by my FSA/HSA administrator?
Please contact us at team@truemed.com so we can help you troubleshoot the issue. FSA/HSA plan administrators often have detailed requirements, so it may be as simple as re-issuing your Letter of Medical Necessity using the administrator’s form.
How does using my FSA/HSA account save me money?
FSA/HSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because FSA/HSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in their health.
An individual can contribute up to $4,150 pretax to their HSA per year, or $8,300 for a family (plus an additional $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old). Almost every qualified individual will save between $1,000 and $2,000, depending on their state and tax rate.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?
In order to determine whether certain products or services are legitimate expenses for treating, mitigating, or preventing a diagnosed medical condition, FSA/HSA plan administrators often require a letter from a licensed practitioner. This letter is called a “Letter of Medical Necessity.”
I don’t have an FSA/HSA, can I still benefit from TrueMed?
Unfortunately, Truemed’s services are for individuals who have FSA or HSA accounts (or plan to fund one during open enrollment). We encourage you to ask your employer about information on your FSA or HSA!

I have extremely unpredictable cycles and symptoms. I’ve always struggled knowing exactly what/when to do for my body. Aavia has broken it down so clearly, and I feel I know exactly what to expect going into the unknown of my cycle. I absolutely love this app.
