When Can I Get Pregnant?
Did you know that you actually can't get pregnant every day of your cycle? During most of our sex-ed classes, we were taught that you can get pregnant every day of the month. However, there's actually only a short window of time where we can get pregnant each month. Let's break down how this works:
🤰WHEN CAN I GET PREGNANT?
- you can only get pregnant when there is a viable egg ready for sperm to implant onto it, this happens during ovulation
- ovulation is a 12-24 hour event that typically occurs in the middle of your cycle, but it's important to confirm ovulation with other methods such as tracking discharge and/or basal body temperature
- BUT, sperm can live in the body for 5 days so your fertility window is: 5 days before ovulation + ovulation itself
💦HOW DO I KNOW WHEN IM OVULATING?
- it’s hard to know exactly when ovulation occurs, but taking your basal body temperature & tracking your discharge are ways that help confirm ovulation
🧤WHEN SHOULD I BE CAREFUL?
- it's important to always be careful and vigilant because it's difficult to confirm ovulation
- using protection also protects against STDs
