Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What makes the Split Program different from other egg freezing programs?
How do I know how many eggs I have?
The number of eggs you have changes with age—it’s not something we can count exactly, but doctors can estimate based on hormone levels and ultrasounds. Women are born with a lot of eggs (about 1-2 million!), but this naturally decreases over time, with about 300,000 left by puberty and fewer as you age.
Do I have to pay?
If you’re eligible for the Split Program, by meeting Cofertility’s requirements, and decide to donate half of your retrieved eggs, your egg freezing procedure, medications, and ten years of storage will be completely free of charge.
If I donate half through this program, am I left with enough for my own family planning?
Cofertility assesses your egg reserve to ensure you’ll have enough for your family planning goals, even after donating half. The number of eggs needed depends on your age and family-building goals and in some cases, you can even do two cycles completely free to ensure your family-building goals are met!
How do I find out if I qualify for the Split Program?
To kick off the process, take our 1 minute quiz and tell us a bit about yourself. This gives a sense of what programs you might be qualified for.
What does the application process look like?
The process begins with a quick quiz to see if you're a good fit, followed by an application to create your profile for potential matches. After a call with the Cofertility team to answer any questions and some initial testing, your profile will be shared with intended parents, and once matched, a Member Advocate will guide you through the next steps. It’s a supportive journey with lots of options, including meeting the parents if you feel comfortable!
Can I pause my application at any time?
Absolutely! We know that life is unpredictable, so if at any time you change your mind or need to pause your Member Advocate will be there to help. If and when you are ready, you can let them know you are ready to pick up where you left off.
What is the ideal profile of someone who’s a fit for this program?
While we’d love to have as many women join our Split program as possible, we do follow FDA and ASRM guidelines around egg donation that are designed to protect the health and well-being of the donors and intended parents. The ideal fit is a healthy woman aged 21-33, with both ovaries, and no major health issues.
How do I know what next steps to take through this journey?
You will have access to an online portal that helps you know exactly what needs to happen and you will be paired with a Member Advocate at Cofertility who will be your go-to person through your entire journey, helping you every step of the way through the process. They’re there to support you with all the medical, emotional, and practical parts of the journey, making sure everything goes smoothly and with care.
